The PharmaCare S1 Plus Blood Pressure Monitor is a clinically validated device equipped with Fuzzy Logic technology, making it easy to achieve accurate readings from the comfort of your own home. Fuzzy Logic is a processing algorithm that takes into account the characteristics of individual heartbeats, providing enhanced measurement precision. Precise and comfort-optimized, this self-adjusting blood pressure monitor ensures accurate readings every time. It detects irregular heartbeats and features an easy-to-read WHO blood pressure classification indicator. The monitor has a cuff check indicator and automatic averaging of the last three readings and provides reliable results that you can trust. The monitor is designed for two users and stores up to 100 readings per user for convenient health tracking.
This device uses oscillometric technology with Fuzzy Logic to measure arterial blood pressure and the patient’s pulse rate. The cuff is wrapped around the arm and automatically inflated by an air pump. The device sensor records fluctuations in cuff pressure produced by the expansion and contraction of the arm artery in response to each heartbeat. The amplitude of these pressure waves is measured, converted into millimetres of mercury (mmHg), and displayed digitally. The S1 Plus model provides blood pressure and pulse rate measurements, even when an irregular heartbeat occurs. When the device detects an irregular heartbeat or excessive body movement during measurement, a black-and-white heart icon appears on the LCD screen.

Uses
The PharmaCare Blood Pressure Monitor S1 Plus is intended for the non-invasive measurement of systolic and diastolic arterial blood pressure and pulse rate in patients aged 15 and over.
Application
Battery Installation:
- Remove the battery cover
- Insert 4 x “AAA” batteries as indicated in the battery compartment
- Replace the battery cover
Using the power adapter (optional):
- Insert the adapter cord into the jack on the right-hand side of the monitor, then insert the adapter plug into an outlet
- To remove the adapter, disconnect the adapter plug from the outlet and then disconnect the cord from the monitor’s input
- To avoid any possible damage, only use the PharmaCare adapter
Preparing to use the S1 Plus Monitor:
- Please keep quiet for 5-10 minutes and avoid eating, drinking, alcohol, smoking, exercising and bathing before taking a blood pressure measurement – all of these factors will influence the measurement result
- Remove any garments that fit closely to the upper arm
- Always measure on the same arm (normally left)
- Measurements should be taken regularly and at the same time, as blood pressure varies throughout the day
- Any effort to support the arm during measurement may increase the measured blood pressure
- Make sure that you are in a comfortable, relaxed position with leg-uncrossed, feet flat on the floor with the back and arm supported.
- The middle of the cuff should be situated at the same level as the right atrium of the heart – If the arm artery lies lower or higher than the heart, a false reading will be obtained
- Do not move or constrict your arm
- A loose or open cuff causes false readings
- Blood accumulates in the arm which can lead to false reading if measurements are repeated continuously. Consecutive blood pressure measurements should be repeated after a 1 minute pause, or after the arm has been held up in order to allow the accumulated blood to flow away
How to Sit Correctly:
- Sit beside the table and let the table support your arm as you take the measurement
- Sit upright with your back straight
- Make sure that the cuff on the upper arm is not crossed, and is at approximately the same level as the heart
- Make sure that your feet lie on the ground and are not crossed
- You may lie on your back to take a measurement if necessary. Look at the ceiling, keep calm, and don’t move your neck or body during the measurement
Applying the Arm Cuff:
- Insert the edge of the cuff approximately 5 centimetres into the D-ring
- Put the cuff on the left upper arm with the tube pointing to the direction of the palm. If measurement on the left arm is difficult, the right arm may be used for measurement. In this case, it is important to note that readings may differ about 5-10mmHg between the left and right arms
- Wrap the cuff around the upper arm, with the lower edge of the cuff approximately 2-3 centimetres above the elbow. The mark <ARTERY> must be placed over the artery of the arm
- Press the cuff to make sure that it is attached securely. The cuff should not be too tight or loose. Two fingers should be easily placed in between the cuff and the upper arm
- The mark <INDEX> on the cuff must point to area <NORMAL>. This means the cuff size is correct. If mark <INDEX> points to the area beyond <NORMAL> area, please consult your supplier on whether you may need a bigger size cuff. This device is supplied with the standard cuff, which fits arms sized 22 – 32cm.
- If clothes restrict blood circulation of the upper arm, the sleeve is rolled up, take off the shirt to get an accurate measurement if necessary
Taking a Measurement:
- Insert the air hose into the air connector
- Before the measurement is taken, take 3 – 5 deep breathes and relax. Do not talk or move your arm
- Press the power button to enter stand-by mode – the LED displays the time and date alternately
- When the device is on stand-by, press the power button and all symbols will appear on the screen
- The pump will begin to inflate, with the display showing the pressure reading
- If the cuff was applied incorrectly, it may cause unreliable measurement results or measurements may fail to start – the “Cuff Check Indicator” will flash to determine if the cuff is wrapped snugly enough. A tick like icon appears if the cuff is wrapped correctly during measurement. Otherwise, a machine error may appear if the cuff is wrapped too loosely (see error information section in the instruction manual for details)
- The heart symbol will start to flash once the pulse is detected
- Then pump will stop, and the pressure in the cuff will fall once the measurement has been taken
- After the measurement has been taken, a symbol of a person with a number 1 on them and a symbol of another person with a number 2 on them will flash to remind the user to record the reading of the systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse rate. Press ‘M1’ and ‘M2’ to record the recording in the corresponding memory. The device will shut down, and the result will not be saved if no operation is performed within 30 seconds
- If an irregular heartbeat was detected during the measurement, the LCD will display a heartbeat monitor line icon to remind the users of heartbeat irregularity. If this icon displays frequently, please contact your physician
- The “Movement Detection” helps to remind the user to remain still, indicating any adverse body movement during the measurement. An icon of a person with movement lines on either side of them will appear once a “body movement” has been detected during and after such a measurement. It is highly recommended that you re-take the measurement if this icon appears
- Press the power button to turn off the device and rest for at least 3 minutes before taking another measurement
- If the results exceed the display range, ‘Hi’ will be displayed, and if the result is below the display range, ‘Lo’ will be displayed
- If you do not feel well during the measurement or want to stop the measurement, press the power button. The device will quickly release the air from the cuff, and the device will be switched off
Using the Memory Function:
- The S1 Plus model can store 100 sets of readings in ‘M1’ and ‘M2’ and automatically calculates the average value of the latest 3 readings. When the memory is full, the oldest reading will automatically be replaced by newer ones.
- The memory readings will not clear away, even if power supply is removed
- After recording a measurement, or when the device is on standby, the user can press the ‘M1’ or ‘M2’ buttons to recall the memory measurements.
- When the ‘M1’ button is pressed, the display will show the average value of the last 3 readings. If the button is pressed again, the display will show ‘01’, which shows the latest reading, and if you press the button again, it will show the second last reading
- Following a measurement, or when the device is powered off, hold down the ‘M1’ or ‘M2’ button for at least 3 seconds – the display will show ‘CL’, which will clear all measurements for a specific user
