Description

The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze is made of cotton and are designed to aid with tamponade or packing. This ribbon gauze has 22 threads per sq.cm according to EN 14079 and weighs approximately 33 grams per sq.m. It comes in sterile packaging, where each piece of gauze has been individually packed in peel-open packaging, all within a shelf box.

The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze is intended to be used for packaging natural body orifices and surgical wounds. The mode of action includes absorption of drainage and fluids, support, application of pressure to achieve haemostasis or as a carrier for administration of medicines.

Uses

The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze can be used for nasal packing (treatment of epistaxis; for administration of medicinal substances), for ear packing (for administration of medicinal substances e.g. treatment of otitis externa) and for packing of surgical wounds (e.g. for absorption of body fluids; for post-surgical packing; for stabilisation of bony pieces).

 

Application

  • Assess the appropriateness of ribbon gauze for the medical intervention
  • If suitable, follow healthcare guidelines or protocols for sing (including monitoring and changing) ribbon gauze
  • Remove the BV Sterile Gauze Swabs from the packaging
  • If necessary, use sterile scissors to cut the appropriate length of ribbon gauze
  • Maintain proper (including aseptic) technique to ensure favourable outcome and patient safety, while preventing infection.
  • If cutting the ribbon gauze, any open and unused ribbon gauze should be discarded
  • Document the procedure in a medical record, including the type and amount of ribbon gauze used, and any observations or instructions for ongoing care
