Description

Tubigrip is a specially designed, elasticated tubular bandage that provides firm but comfortable support for sprains, strains and weak joints. It is also used to reduce swelling and to keep dressings in place.

The benefits of Tubigrip over other bandages is that it is easy to apply (just pull it on), it stays in place all day without the need for pins or tape, and it is reusable and easy to wash.

Uses

Tubigrip is designed to reduce swelling. With any injury, there is often swelling. Although some swelling is inevitable, too much swelling results in significant loss of function, excessive pain and eventually reduces the blood flow.  This slows the healing process and can be painful.
Tubigrip can be also be used to help support a weak and painful joints. It is most useful in the first few days after an injury. It is important to wean off the support of the Tubigrip compression bandage as soon as possible, certainly within a week – otherwise muscles are likely to get weaker due to not being used.

Application

Tubigrip compression bandages should cover the relevant joint extending up to just below the joint above and down to just above the joint below e.g. for the knee it should go from just below the hip to just above the ankle.

Tubigrip should always be applied double thickness for it to work effectively.

1. Cut off the appropriate amount of Tubigrip (remembering to double the length to allow for double thickness).

2. Pull a single layer up over your limb to the correct height.

3. Fold it over at the bottom and extend it upwards, stopping a couple of centimetres before the top.

Tubigrip should feel tight but not restrictive.
