Description
Mepilex is a soft, highly conformable foam dressing that absorbs exudate and maintains a moist wound environment. The Safetac layer seals the wound edges, preventing exudate from leaking onto the surrounding skin, thus minimising the risk of maceration. The Safetac layer ensures that the dressing can be changed without damaging the wound or surrounding skin or exposing the patient to additional pain.
The dressing stays securely in place, and enables “hands-free” application, making it easier to apply compression or retention bandages. It is particularly well suited for use under compression bandaging systems. Mepilex can be cut and shaped to fit various wound sizes, contours, and difficult-to-dress anatomical locations, offering flexibility in clinical practice.
Designed with patient comfort in mind, the dressing enhances comfort during wear and can remain in place for several days, depending on wound condition and accepted clinical guidelines. It can also be lifted and repositioned without losing its adherent properties, ensuring optimal placement. Additionally, it has a low potential for skin irritation and allergic reactions, making it suitable for patients with sensitive skin.

Uses
Mepilex is intended for a wide range of exuding wounds, including leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and traumatic wounds, such as skin tears and secondary healing wounds. Mepilex can be used to protect compromised and/or fragile skin and can also be used as part of prophylactic therapy to help prevent skin damage, such as pressure ulcers.
Application
- Prior to use, please read all instructions and precautions
- Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures
- Dry the surrounding skin thoroughly
- Select an appropriate dressing size. Mepilex should cover the dry surrounding skin by at least 1 – 2 cm for the smaller sizes (sizes up to 12.5 x 12.5cm) and 3 – 5cm for the larger sizes in order to protect the surrounding skin from maceration, and to fixate the dressing securely. If required, Mepilex can be cut to suit various wound shapes and locations
- Remove the first release film and apply the adherent side to the wound
- Remove the remaining release film and smooth down the dressing on the skin, do not stretch
- When necessary, fixate Mepilex with a bandage or other fixation
- The dressing change interval may be several days. Change the dressing before it is fully saturated, at signs of leakage, or as advised by a clinical practitioner
- Mepilex can be used under compression bandaging and in combination with gels
- Disposal should be handled in accordance with local environmental procedures
