Description

The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze is a 100% cotton gauze that is used to fill wound cavities and fistulae or wound pockets so that it has direct contact with the wound bacteria, and is fixed with a secondary primary dressing.

The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze has an approximate weight of 33g and a length of 5 metres. The gauze contains is 22 threads per sq.cm according to European Pharmacopea and EN 14079.

BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze is packed in individual peel-open packs, and comes in a shelf box.

Uses

The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze can be used for all types of contaminated, colonised or infected exuding wounds, regardless of their aetiology, such as chronic wounds, e.g. venous, arterial, or diabetic ulcers and pressure ulcers.

BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze is also suitable for use on acute wounds such as postoperative and dehisced wounds, traumatic wounds and post-excision of fistulas or abscess wounds.

Application

Prepare the wound according to local clinical practice.

Select an appropriate BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze size for the wound site. The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze may overlap the wound margins if needed.

Remove the BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze from the pouch using an aseptic technique.

If cutting the BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze, cut across using an aseptic technique. Discard any open and unused gauze and apply to the wound. Ensure that the BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze comes into direct contact with the complete wound surface.

Line/fill the cavity or fistula. Avoid dense packing. Always leave a part of the BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze sticking out so that it can be easily removed. If cutting the BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze, it is recommended to leave the cut end outside the cavity and fistula to avoid residual threads in the wound.

Apply an appropriate secondary dressing.

The BV Sterile Ribbon Gauze change frequency depends on exudate levels and the overall condition of the wound and surrounding skin. Should the clinical condition allow, the dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days.
